In this article we'll show you how to connect your Ontraport account to Kourses. This will allow you to add new member information from Kourses to your lists inside Ontraport account for followup marketing.
In this guide, you'll learn how to connect Ontraport with your Kourses memberships. This integration lets you automatically capture new members and send them into Ontraport for additional marketing follow-up.
Step 1: Choose the Membership to Integrate

Log into your Kourses dashboard.

Select the membership you want to integrate.
(Example used: "Sales Funnel Bootcamp" membership.)
Step 2: Access the Integrations Settings

Go to the Integrations tab.
-
Under Email Marketing and Other, find the New Members section.
-
Click Add Service.
Step 3: Select Ontraport as Your Service
-
Scroll down until you see the Ontraport option.
-
Click Choose Service.
Now, you’ll need to connect your Ontraport account by entering your credentials.
Step 4: Locate Your Ontraport Credentials
Here’s how to find your Application ID and API Key inside Ontraport:

Log into your Ontraport account.
-
Click the Profile Menu (top right corner).
-
Choose Administration.
-
From the left menu, select Integrations.
-
Click Ontraport API Instructions and Key Manager.
-
Click New API Key.
When creating your API Key:

Select the Contact Owner (you can just pick yourself).
-
Set the following permissions:

Add Contact

Search Contacts
-
Delete Contacts
-
Manage Fields
-

Enter a name for your API key (e.g., "Kourses Membership").

Click Save.
Now you’ll see your new API key listed.
Step 5: Connect Kourses to Ontraport

Copy your App ID and paste it into Kourses.

Copy your API Key and paste it into Kourses.
-
Important: Remove any spaces before or after the pasted credentials.

Click Save and Connect.
If successful, you’ll now see a list of your Ontraport Automations inside Kourses!
Step 6: Choose the Right Automation

Your automations (campaigns) from Ontraport will be listed.

Pick the automation you want new members to be added to.
(Example used: "One Click Email Survey" automation.)
Pro Tip: Ideally, you should create a new automation in Ontraport that's specific to the course or membership you're integrating with.

Step 7: (Optional) Apply a Tag to New Members

You can also apply a tag from Ontraport to each new member.

If you don’t want to use tags, simply leave this field blank.
Step 8: Finalize the Integration

Click Save.
Done! 🎉
Now, whenever someone becomes a member via your Kourses checkout or API/webhook, they'll be automatically added to the Ontraport automation you chose.

Step 1: Choose Your Membership

Select the membership you want to apply the abandoned cart integration to.
(Example: "Lead Funnel in a Weekend" membership.)
Step 2: Access the Integrations Section

Click on Integrations.

Under Email Marketing and Others, find the Abandoned Cart Lead section.

Click Add Service.
-
Scroll through the email services list and select Ontraport by clicking Choose Service.
Step 3: Connect Your Ontraport Account

Enter your Application ID and API Key.

(If you don't know how to find these, check the separate tutorial specifically for retrieving them.)

Click Save and Connect.
✅ You’ve now completed the first half of the integration!
Step 4: Link Your Ontraport Campaign and Tags

After connecting, Kourses will pull a list of your Ontraport automations.

Choose the automation you want (e.g., a campaign called "Abandon" that sends follow-up emails).

Optionally, you can also select a tag to apply when someone abandons the cart.
(In this tutorial, the tag field was left blank.)
Step 5: Create Custom Fields in Ontraport
You’ll need two custom fields to store information sent from Kourses:

Membership Name

Checkout URL
Here’s how to create them:

In your Ontraport account, go to the Contacts tab.

Click Settings and open the Field Editor.

Under Contact Information, click Add Field.

First field:

Name:
Membership Name

Type: Text

Save it.

Cart URL

Type: Text

Unique: Yes

Save it.

Step 6: Connect the Custom Fields in Kourses

Go back to Kourses and save to refresh the integration.

Scroll down to the Custom Fields section.

Map your new Ontraport fields:

Under Membership Name, select

🎉 The integration is now fully complete!
What Happens Next?

When a visitor abandons checkout (e.g., closes the browser without completing), after around one hour, their info will be sent to Ontraport.

They’ll be:

Added to the automation you selected (e.g., "Abandon").
-
Tagged, if you chose to add a tag.
-
Membership name and checkout URL will be populated in their contact record.

You can then use this information to personalize your follow-up emails — increasing your chances of recovering the sale.
