How to Use the Abandoned Cart Feature

The Abandoned Cart feature is a powerful tool designed to help you recover lost sales by re-engaging potential customers who visited your checkout page but did not complete their purchase. This guide will walk you through how the feature works, its benefits, and how you can optimise it for maximum results.

What is the Abandoned Cart Feature?

When visitors start the checkout process by entering their email address but not finalising the purchase, their details are captured, and an Abandoned Cart Lead is created. This allows you to follow up with them via automated email reminders, encouraging them to return and complete their purchase.

How the Abandoned Cart Feature Works

Automatic Data Capture:

When visitors enter their email address on the checkout page but do not complete their order, their information is saved.

The system registers them as “Abandoned Cart Leads” and adds them to the Abandoned Cart Leads table. 

Leads that are added to the table will not be created as new leads for 7 days. This limits the abandoned cart process from running frequently. 

After 7 days, if the same lead revisits your checkout, a new lead is created, and the abandon cart process will trigger again.

Leads remain on the table for 90 days unless they become a customer. At this point, they are removed from the leads table.

Kourses automatically collects your abandoned cart leads. To send them to follow-up (win back) emails you need to connect your Kourses account to your CRM or email-sending service through our integrations. 

Note: Cart Abandon emails are not sent through Kourses. You must connect to your CRM or email-sending service to send the follow-up emails.

Once connected, you can add Leads to a campaign and/or apply a tag to them. 

You can also send the name of the membership (Membership Name Field) the lead wants to purchase and the checkout URL (Checkout URL Field) to custom fields in your CRM/Email sending service.

Cart abandon email templates

These email templates are designed to help you re-engage potential customers who have abandoned their purchase on your Kourses checkout. Follow these steps to implement them effectively:

Customising the Templates

Kourses custom fields (optional)

[Membership Name Field]: Replace this placeholder with the custom field for the membership name.

[Checkout URL Field]: Insert the unique URL for the customer’s abandoned cart or checkout page.

Recommended Sending Schedule

Timing is crucial for maximising conversions. We recommend the following schedule:

Email 1: Send 1 hour after the checkout is abandoned.

Email 2: Send 24 hours after the first email (we recommend testing this time).

This schedule strikes a balance between being proactive and giving the customer enough time to take action.

Best Practices for Success

Personalise the Content: The more relevant the email feels, the more likely it is to convert. Use details like the customer’s first name and specific benefits that align with their goals.

Keep the Tone Friendly: Focus on helping customers make the most of your product rather than pressuring them.

Include a Clear Call-to-Action (CTA): Ensure your checkout link stands out, making it easy for customers to take action immediately.

Test and Optimise: Experiment with subject lines, email copy, and timing to see what resonates best with your audience.
